about our ‘culture fuels literacy’ program
It is our mission to lend support to children in Georgia who are performing below grade level reading standards. Inspite of popular i-Ready software that has shown an increase in reading performance, overall students are still performing below average especially children of color. Studies have shown that children who are reading culturally relevant materials read for longer periods of time and have greater comprehension. In addition, studies from the University of Melbourne have shown that a more autonomous experience enhances learning in four key areas: Mastery, Performance, Hedonic & Social. Based upon the above evidence based approach, IQRA International has designed a program for cohorts of 20 children to improve literacy and comprehension.
Our 8-week program includes Reading tutorials, Literacy Boot Camp, Cultural Historical Highlights and a trip to two black owned museums: The Apex & The Madam CJ Walker Museums in Atlanta, Georgia and the program culminates with an all expense paid trip to the National Museum of African American History & Culture.
Our mission is to empower young minds with the joy of reading.
